Community Health begins construction on new health centre in Tacoma
Community Health Care, a US-based health care services provider, has begun construction of a new $26 million Hilltop Regional Health Center in Tacoma, Washington.
Designed by Johnson Architecture, the new health centre will be located in the inner-city Hilltop neighbourhood in Tacoma. The three-storey building will replace an existing 35-year old clinic of the Community Health and will span around 54,735 square feet.
The new Hilltop Regional Health Center will accommodate medical and dental clinics, urgent care, radiology, pediatrics, internal medicine and obstetrics. The project also involves development of a separate three-storey car park.
Construction will be undertaken by general contractor Abbott Construction and is scheduled for a wrap-up in October 2013. It will create about 100 construction jobs in the region.
Community Health has secured more than $8 million funding for the scheme from the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) equity, which is a joint program of the US Bank, the National Development Council (NDC), and the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF). The scheme has also received $12 million grant from the Human Resources Service Administration (HRSA); $1.5 million grant from the State of Washington; and $800,000 loan from the City of Tacoma through NDC’s Grow America Fund. Community Health has raised additional $1.8 million for the scheme by means of capital campaign.
