Clark Construction wins contract for new educational facilities in Maryland

US-based Clark Construction Group has secured a contract from the University of Maryland for the construction of Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center at the university’s College Park campus in Maryland.

The new learning and teaching centre will be located at the site of university's Shriver Laboratory. The project involves construction of a new 63,400 square feet building and renovation of 27,400 square feet of Holzapfel Hall. A 5,000 square feet utility building will also be constructed. Clark will also improve performing site and utility system of the university. The existing lab will be completely erased, as well as certain portions of the adjoining Holzapfel Hall.

The new centre will have multiple classrooms of varying sizes, ranging between 80 to 320 seats in size. The centre will have a total capacity of 2,000 and will feature latest classroom technologies that will be managed through a centralised technology service unit.

The building will include a host of green features and is being targeted for LEED Silver certification. Construction on the scheme is scheduled to begin in 2014, and is slated for completion in February 2016.
