Choate scoops Elon University's Global Village construction contract
US-based Choate Construction has secured a contract from the Elon University for its Spillman Farmer Architects-designed Global Neighborhood project in Elon, North Carolina.
Staged in multiple phases, the project involves construction of five residence halls and one amenities / student activities building. The residential part of the project will encompass a total area of 249,416 square feet and will be able to accommodate 600 students.
The residential development will also incorporate a 30,000 square feet commons building on the shore of Lake Mary Nell. The new commons building will accommodate the Isabella Cannon International Centre, classrooms, faculty offices, study rooms and large gathering spaces.
The Global Neighborhood will also accommodate faculty-in-residence and several language learning communities, such as La Casa de Español, La Maison Francaise, Japanese House, La Casa Italiana, and Deutsches Haus.
Construction on the scheme is expected to begin in late July, with phased delivery in August 2013 and August 2014.
