Canary Wharf hosts first joint exhibition of Carol McNicoll, Sam Scott
Canary Wharf in London is hosting its first ever exhibition from 24 September 2012, which will showcase the work of ceramicist Carol McNicoll, alongside fine furniture by cabinet-maker Sam Scott.
Dubbed as ‘Pieces Together,’ the exhibition features Carol McNicoll’s unique vessels in clay, porcelain and cast glass, which are often combined with found objects. These are presented as McNicoll’take on political commentary. Most of these pieces are highly decorative, which have been disguised in floral patterns.
All the items created by her, including plates, bowls, teapots, cups, saucers and vases, are displayed on one-off items of furniture created by Sam Scott, who is sharing the exhibition space with her.
Sam Scott’s inventive tables, chests of drawers and sideboards are created from off-cuts from his workshop in North London, Constructive and Co. Sam recycles the wood discarded from previous projects, such as junked table legs, discarded headboards, kitchen tops and offcuts, and pieces them together so that the materials themselves inform the function of the finished pieces. He also adds colour to the furniture with unusual combinations of materials and adventurous design.
Nine of Sam’s recycled pieces will be showcased in the Lobby at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf. ‘Pieces Together’ is part of Canary Wharf Group’s award-winning temporary exhibition programme, ‘Sculpture at Work’, and runs from 24 September – 16 November 2012.
