California's The Village at Market Creek wins LEED certification

The Village at Market Creek, a redevelopment project in San Diego, California, has received LEED Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) Silver certification from the US-Green Building Council.

The project is being developed by Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, a non-profit foundation committed to resident ownership of the plans, processes, and assets of neighborhood change. The project involves redevelopment of blighted properties in southeastern San Diego, which sprawl over more than 84 acres, into a cultural village.

The cultural village will consist of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, built around the Euclid transit hub. Scope of work involves 1.6 million square feet new construction which will include 1000 affordable homes. The project is anticipated to generate 2000 jobs in the region. The project also involves 5500 linear feet of wetlands restoration.
