Butler & Willow designs storage scheme for warehouse facility in Manchester

Butler & Willow have designed a scheme to handle palletised raw materials and finished goods in a new 30 foot high warehouse facility of Hill Biscuits in the town of Dukinfield, near Manchester, UK.

Hill Biscuits has been involved in improving the use of its existing facilities during the recent downturn. In 2011, Hill Biscuits engaged Butler & Willow to design the scheme to handle palletised raw materials and finished goods in a new, 8000 square feet warehouse which was being built on the existing site.

The new design allows for continued expansion of the warehouse facility at a later date, using either push-back or drive-in racking to increase floor space usage at the despatch end of the building. The racking includes full-width end protection on each rack to minimise potential damage from the forklift truck.

The design has utilised the new space effectively while making the operation safe, ergonomically efficient and able to deliver savings over time. This, in turn, will help to cover the cost of the whole improvement programme.

Ongoing rationalisation of facilities is expected to continue in future. Hill Biscuits was opened as a grocery and provisions shop in the town of Dukinfield in 1855 by John and Sarah Hill.
