Bulgaria opens first LEED-certified airport centre
Bulgaria has unveiled the first phase of Sofia Airport Center (SAC), the country’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) commercial development.
The project consists of 180,000 square meters of Class A office space and 28,000 square meters of logistics and warehouse space. Logistics facilities are located in three separate structures, which offer office space and advanced security and safety systems. The centre’s design also incorporates future expansion plans such as a 175-room hotel with recreational, dining and conference facilities, as well as additional logistics and office space.
Eco-friendly SAC employs various sustainable features such as an energy-efficient VAV HVAC system controlled by an automated building management system; advanced fiber optics; abundant natural light through open atriums and double-glazed windows; high, 2.85-meter ceilings; and solar shading on building exteriors to reduce heat and solar gain. Eco-friendly materials are used along with state-of-the-art technologies to reduce operating costs by as much as 30%.
The office space at SAC will have a standard design that can be customised according to the requirements of tenants. The standard design provides a food-coffee and/or wet bar, dining area with table and seating, place for a wall-mounted television with ultra-modern low seating for viewing, or a relaxation area with comfortable furniture.
An onsite sports facility is featured within the Logistics Center of SAC. The fully equipped Dance and Aerobics Studio, which is open to SAC employees and community residents, offers a variety of after-work training classes. The site of SAC also offers a 5,000-square-metre park environment of lush landscaping and winter gardens with water features and outdoor seating, as well as an open recreational space, which includes walking trails and a central lake. Other onsite amenities and services include a canteen, café, pharmacy, dry cleaning and ATM machine and a full service restaurant.
