Brook Haven unit in Bromsgrove on track to open in 2013

Brook Haven unit, a new specialist mental health unit at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital site in Bromsgrove, UK is nearing completion.

The Brook Haven unit at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital site is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment and extension project. The unit will be a modern, environmentally-friendly facility, and will cater to older adults who have mental health issues and who can’t safely be supported in their own homes. These mental health illnesses range from dementia or Alzheimer’s to more severe illnesses such as schizophrenia.

The unit will feature 30 en-suite bedrooms and includes a range of outdoor areas and themed rooms. These areas have been designed to provide mental stimulus to help people with dementia and related issues. The unit will also feature large courtyards, an allotment, workshops, a 1960s’ themed launderette, and a conference room, which can be converted into a cinema for the patients. Each patient will have their own en-suite room.

The unit is on schedule to be completed in the summer of 2013. Kier Construction is undertaking the construction of the project.
