Brixton town centre to get Express by Holiday Inn hotel
Lambeth Council has granted planning permission for a new £4.5 million ($7.03 million) Express by Holiday Inn hotel to be built at Brixton town centre in London.
The new Express by Holiday Inn hotel is planned to be built at the former Woolworth’s site in Brixton Road. The design of the new hotel will harness the vibrancy of the local area by restoring the style and features of the original Art Deco building.
The proposed 188-room hotel would have a total floor space of 4,279 square metre. The main entrance to the hotel would be from Coldharbour Lane via stairs and a lift from street level up to a main lobby. The H&M and T-Mobile shops already trading in Brixton Road from the ground floor of the former Woolworth’s branch will be unaffected by the plan.
The proposed hotel application has been submitted by Boyes Rees Architects on behalf of Crown Properties Ltd. Work is expected to start by the end of 2012.
