Bradley University’s Hayden-Clark Alumni Center receives LEED Silver

Bradley University’s Hayden-Clark Alumni Center has received LEED Silver certification from the Green Building Certification Institute, becoming the first new building in the city of Peoria, Illinois to achieve the honour.

The project accomplished this certification by employing various sustainable concepts. The building is more than 20% power-efficient than similar buildings, with strategic use of abundant daylight throughout the space. It has also managed to reduce water utilisation by more than 30%. In addition, many local and recycled components were used in the construction, which added to its sustainability credentials.

The $12 million Hayden-Clark Alumni Center was completed in October 2011. Spread over 39,554-square-feet, the centre features 300-seat Peplow Pavilion ballroom, offices, conference rooms, the Turner library and the Shaheen Hall of pride. It is one of the five buildings which were completed as a result of the University’s $161 million Renaissance Campaign.

Another Bradley campus construction, Westlake Hall, lately underwent renovation and expansion, and has been designed and constructed to qualify for LEED Gold. It incorporates high-efficiency lighting, heating system, ventilation, air conditioning, low-flow lavatories, heat recovery unit, construction automation controls, reduced emission finish components and recycled building components. The project was completed at a cost of $24 million.
