Boston Public Library's Brighton branch bags LEED Silver


The Brighton branch of the Boston Public Library in Massachusetts, US has secured LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council after an interior renovation.


The facility covers an area of 22,400 square feet. It now incorporates enhanced technological capacity and upgraded mechanical equipment, while offering better sightlines and complying by ADA norms. The revamped library comprises a new teen area featuring café-style seating facilities, a new community room, and a landscaped yard on Academy Hill Road. It has also been fitted with contemporary luxurious furniture pieces throughout and over 20 new computers.

The design of the refurbished library allows optimum penetration of natural light, thereby reaping energy savings. It has also installed efficient lighting fixtures, water systems, and materials which contribute to its sustainability. Further, the facility has reclaimed 92% of its waste material resulting from improvement works.
