Birmingham Children’s Hospital reopens renovated paediatric ICU

Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the UK has reopened the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) after a £3.6 million ($5.48 million) renovation, which is designed to provide better access to critical care for the children of the area.

Said to be the largest PICU in the UK, the new unit features 31 beds. It is designed to provide care to over 1,000 critically ill babies, children and young people and offer 190,000 hours of care every year.

The new area has been designed as a bright, modern and spacious facility. The PICU features colours and artwork designed by young artists, which creates a vibrant and soothing atmosphere for the young patients and their families.

The paediatric intensive care unit officially opened its doors to the patients on 16 May 2013.
