BDP to renovate Theatre Royal in Plymouth

Global architectural practice BDP has been appointed by the UK-based BAM Construction to refurbish and expand the Theatre Royal in Plymouth.

Designed by Peter Moro & Partners and completed in 1982, the Theatre Royal is an iconic feature in the city and one of the region’s major theatre venues.

Estimated to cost £5million ($7.76 million), the refurbishment project includes the extension and upgradation of the front of house areas, a new entrance and extended restaurant. It will also replace the external cladding and create a new community theatre in the existing basement.

In addition to that the renovation project also includes substantial upgradation of the public realm to provide a high quality fully accessible environment.

The six month renovation programme is scheduled for completion in September 2013.
