BDP-designed University College Falmouth’s AIR facility opens
The Academy for Innovation and Research (AIR) for University College Falmouth, on the campus of the Combined Universities in Cornwall, Tremough, designed by London-based Building Design Partnership (BDP) has opened.
AIR is a major new initiative aimed at increasing the impact of University College Falmouth’s research and enterprise upon the creative industries and supporting the growth of the wider economy in Cornwall.
The AIR offers a large, flexible space spread over two levels. The building is topped by gentle curved green roof, which begins from the sloping site with the section providing panoramic views across the Cornish countryside from within.
The AIR also incorporates several sustainable features, based on which it has been awarded BREEAM Excellent status. The building enjoys a prominent location within the campus and is approachable from the road to the campus.
The project entailed a cost of GBP2.4 million ($3.8 million).
