BDP bags PFI contract for London fire stations
London Fire Brigade has selected BDP, a part of a consortium led by Kier, as its PFI partner for renovation of nine old fire stations across the capital estimated at £57.4 million ($91.17 million).
The stations to be refurbished include the Dagenham, Dockhead, Leytonstone, Mitcham, Old Kent Road, Orpington, Plaistow, Purley and Shadwell fire stations. Out of these, the Mitcham station will be constructed on a new site whereas the remaining eight will be entirely rebuilt on their current sites.
The upgraded facilities will incorporate passive design solutions such as natural ventilation and exposed thermal mass. The form of the building will incorporate daylight modelling, while active mechanical installations will be matched in all the sites. All the projects will abide by BREEAM Outstanding standards.
The Blue3 consortium, including BDP’s architects, building services, civil and structural engineers, landscape architects and planners, will design, build, finance and maintain the stations. Construction on the project is due to commence by June 2013.
