BBS Architects unveils renovation and expansion plan for Riverhead High School
US-based BBS Architects, Landscape Architects and Engineers have unveiled a $32.1 million renovation and expansion plan for Riverhead High School in Riverhead, New York.
The expansion and renovation of the high school involves construction of a new building, renovation of existing building and upgrades to the site in general. The project involves construction of a $12-million, two-storey building.
The 30,000 square feet addition will accommodate a new main entry, four 1,400 square feet Advanced Science classrooms, four 825 square feet science classrooms, as well as offices for main, guidance and administrative staffs.
The project also involves construction of a smaller 2,232 square feet second addition to the high school, which will function as physical education station, and include a new weight training room. Upon completion of construction of the new building, several offices housed in the old building will be moved to new building.
The vacated spaces in the old building will be renovated and used for educational programming. The renovation work involves installation of a green and insulated roof and replacement of the windows, installation of high efficiency lighting and HVAC systems, water saving fixtures, high performance window glazing, and tight building envelopes.
Other sections to undergo re-development are the library, auditorium as well as the two music rooms, three special education rooms, health and home economics rooms, 11 science and chemistry classrooms, large group instruction room, art room, home & careers room, an ROTC office, and bathrooms.
BBS serves the district as architect, interior designer, construction administrator, and civil and MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) engineer.
