Bartell Hotels begins $13 million San Diego expansion project

US-based Bartell Hotels has broken ground on a $13 million expansion of the Holiday Inn San Diego Bayside in San Diego, California designed by US-based architectural practice Joseph Wong Design Associates.

Located at 4875 North Harbor Drive, the Holiday Inn expansion project involves construction of a four-storey building with an area of 44,000 square feet. The interiors has been designed by Liz Bartell Design while the landscaping for the project has been carried out by Parterre Landscape Architecture.

The expansion will accommodate 57 oversized guest rooms and suites overlooking the San Diego Bay and will take the total number of guest rooms to 291, including 13 suites. The building will also house a 3,400 square feet ballroom and a boardroom.

The project will add an element of vibrancy to the hotel. A major element of the renovation is the development of a new entrance of the hotel, featuring a 2,000 square feet lobby that will be marked by a 18-feet high ceiling. The hotel's entrance will also have a large metal sculpture titled "Intersect" created by San Diego artist Matt Devine.

The interiors will be done up in relaxing and fresh color palate of cream, aqua and green. It will feature high ceilings of crafted bamboo, Spanish fretwork, sculptural, modern light fixtures, exotic granite, Mexican antiques, and comfortable, deep seating with full electronic access. Work on the expansion is expected to commence soon with completion scheduled for mid-2013.
