BAM to build police officer training centre in Berkshire

UK-based BAM Construction South East has secured a £4.3 million ($6.7 million) contract from Thames Valley Police for the construction of a Officer Safety Training Centre in Sulhamstead, Berkshire.

The Officer Safety Training Centre will be a dedicated facility for officer safety training and fitness assessments. The facility, in addition to training space, will also incorporate meeting rooms, office accommodation and support rooms.

The specialist training space of the facility will feature padded walls and flooring. The space will boast of a capacity to deliver additional training required by the Thames Valley Police. The Valley Police is targeting to achieve BREEAM Excellent standards for the new build.

Construction of the scheme will be done in compliance with several sustainable practices. The facility will have a green roof and a biomass boiler. The training facility will offset some of its power requirement by means of a photovoltaic installation. The building will have timber roof beams.

Construction on the site is scheduled to commence in September 2012 and will be completed in September 2013.
