Balfour, Network Rail complete Forth Bridge workers memorials in Scotland

UK-based construction company Balfour Beatty and UK's railway operator Network Rail have completed and unveiled the Forth Bridge workers memorials in Scotland.

The decade long restoration of Forth Rail Bridge, which entailed an investment of £130 million ($204.77 million), includes two monuments to celebrate the workers who lost lives while building the Forth Bridge. The twin memorials have been unveiled at North and South Queensferry.

Designed by Scot artist Gordon Muir, the memorials were cast by Powderhall Bronze Limited and Fine Art Founders in Leith. Both memorials are seven feet tall and are bronze structures with a stone base. The upright portion bears the names, and details of the 73 men who died during its construction, while the base is engraved with “To the Briggers, past and present, who built, restored and continue to maintain this iconic structure.”

Along with the new memorials, the project also involved re-paint of the Forth Rail Bridge, which is likely to last for about 25 years.
