Balfour Beatty scoops lighting contract from Leicester City
UK-based company Balfour Beatty has secured a contract from Leicester City Council to upgrade the public lighting with new low-energy lighting system.
The contract forms part of the Council’s White Light Replacement Programme which underlines conversion of almost all of the city’s lights to lower energy LED white lights. The upgrade to low-consumption lighting is anticipated to cutback the maintenance workload and annual costs. Additional benefits, in comparison with traditional sodium vapour tubes, includes longer service life.
The terms of the contract also dictate Balfour Beatty to provide planned and reactive maintenance of the public lighting infrastructure of the city, installation and maintenance of festive decorations for a range of cultural events in the City through the period of the contract.
The company is also required to install new street furniture, such as guard rails, traffic signs, bollards and lighting and provide immediate repairs to street furniture. Valued at £17.2 million ($27.81 million), the contract will come into effect on 1 October 2012 and will span over eight years.
