Balfour Beatty completes $6.5 million activity centre for Tustin Unified School District

Balfour Beatty Construction, in collaboration with the Tustin Unified School District, has completed a new activity centre facility at Columbus Tustin Middle School in the US, which is designed by NTD Architecture.

Measuring approximately 13,000 square feet, the new activity centre features a lobby, gymnasium / multipurpose area, sports flooring and retractable bleachers. In addition to that it also features other facilities like storage space, restrooms, performance area, lighting and two adjoining classrooms.

Designed to provide optimal community access and close proximity to existing locker room facilities, the new activity centre is situated in an area with minimal disruption to heavily used recreational areas on campus.

The activity centre is the first of four activity centres that will also be built in the Tustin Unified School District at A.G. Currie, Hewes, and C.E. Utt Middle Schools. The total construction cost for the entire project (all four activity centres) is $25 million.

A special dedication ceremony for the project was held on 14 December 2012. The project is being funded through the Measure L campus modernisation program passed by Orange County voters in Tustin Unified School District in 2008.
