Baker expands Thomas Pheasant Collection with new designs
US-based furniture designer and manufacturer Baker has unveiled its latest designs by designer Thomas Pheasant at the Spring 2012 International Home Furnishings Market.
The company has unveiled the 75-new products from the Thomas Pheasant Collection at its showroom in High Point, North Carolina. The new products include casegoods, upholstery, lighting and tabletop pieces.
The designer, in the honor of his 10th anniversary with Baker, has designed signature pieces, which are now being offered in polished nickel, including his iconic Constellation Mirror, Paris Coffee Table and Bracelet Chandelier. The work of Pheasant embodies intricacy and art of fine craftsmanship.
The new casegoods product launched by the designer has been done in wood, such as mahogany solids and veneer. Designer has kept minimum decoration that allows the form and the wood’s coloration and figuring to express the intricate design elements that set each piece apart.
Pheasant’s Shell Arm and Side Chairs are a modern interpretation of the Directoire Chair. A lean, sculptural silhouette, the shell refers to the back, slight curve, and just enough pitch enveloping the seat. Pheasant has added a single rich detail, a cast bronze ribbon pull with an organic texture and a polished interior. The arm chair features a flaring, wing-like arm deeply scalloped from the back.
Another new product of the series is Pompeii Coffee Table, for which Pheasant has pared an already spare waterfall form. He has added a cast brass frame on the back with an organically textured face and a polished interior, and a floating clear glass top. The designer has added five new finishes for Sable, which comprises Cameo, Luxe, Gold, Silver and Ivory.
Pheasant has also unveiled a range of drawer pulls consisting of an open square and circle, a square with hand-hammered interior detail, a solid square, and a cast bronze ribbon design that features a hand-hammered organic deep bronze front and bright bronze interior. The hardware was designed specifically for the collection and is hand-cast from solid bronze or brass depending on the pull. Most are offered in customer’s choice of bright bronze, white gold, or polished nickel finishes. The company is offering select cabinet drawers with plain or silver liners, while the other products feature ribbed bronze details, petite nail head trim in French Natural or Platinum finishes, door fronts and tops in Ivory leather, crystal cut clear glass or Giorgio limestone tops, and hand-cast bronze and brass raised borders.
The designer has designed three new mirrors consisting of LeLoop Mirror, which has a simple form, which shows off subtle metalwork with a dark hammered texture on the outer frame that meets a coved edge.
The Thomas Pheasant Collection also features 14 new upholstery designs incorporating tight upholstered form and sensuous curve. Fabric is hand-cut and sewn on-line one inch at a time, and is then hand tacked and re-tacked to a perfect flow match on all four sides. The designs feature tufted and un-tufted versions of many of the forms, with little decoration to distract from the visual details. Hardwood frames are hand-constructed with corners blocked, glued, screwed, and dowelled in Old World fashion.
The company has launched a new chair called Bevel Lounge Chair, which features recessed, molded and mitered squares, with every piece of molding meticulously hand fit to complete the arc to create a coffered pattern inspired by the ceiling of the Pantheon. The designer selected 55 new fabrics and five new leathers to complement the upholstered designs with effortless glamour. The designer has opted for natural palette for the new products.
The designer has also introduced 16 lighting designs: six table lamps, a floor lamp, five chandeliers, a pendant, a lantern, and two sconces; and, 16 tabletop pieces, including a mirror to complete the line. The luminaries are all hand-made in Florence, Italy and incorporate a mix of porcelain, mahogany, hand cut crystal, Murano glass and alabaster with complementing dark hammered and bright bronze, brass and polished nickels accents. Bases are topped by handmade Italian opaque ivory Chinette shades, some with diffusers, and depending upon the style, wired to accommodate low 40- to 60-watt incandescent bulbs for soft, ambient light. The table lamps have transparent cords with on/off switches. The lighting is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approved.
