BA carries Kingston tutor’s dove design for Olympics

Artwork by designer and Kingston University tutor Pascal Anson is being painted on to nine British Airways jets to mark the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The design, inspired by a dove's plumage, will adorn nine of British Airways' Airbus A319 jets, which will fly in guests and foreign teams to the Games.

Anson's design features golden feathers, which run along the planes' fuselages and wings, with an abstract beak motif at the cockpit.

It was selected from hundreds of designs submitted to British Airways as part of its Great Britons competition held last summer. Part of Anson's prize included mentoring by artist Tracey Emin, who last month at London's Heathrow Airport unveiled the first repainted plane.

A successful designer in his own right, Anson also teaches students on several courses at Kingston including graphic design, interior design and the art and design foundation course.

Doves are an Olympic emblem having featured regularly at opening ceremonies, including the last time the Olympic Games came to London, in 1948.
