Austin Bergstrom International Airport to undergo renovation

The Austin Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas is expected to get a makeover once the Austin City Council approves the terminal expansion and parking garage project.

The facelift is expected to provide an international look to the Austin Airport. A contract will be considered by the Austin City Council on 18 October for expanding the 700,000 square feet terminal, estimated at $45 million, reports Austin American-Statesman.

The design and build proposal also includes the addition of a second parking garage, which is estimated to cost $144 million. The new lot will provide 1,750 spaces for airport workers, including pilots, restaurant workers, Federal Aviation Administration employees and airport contract workers. Round Rock-based Chasco Constructors Ltd. LLP will build the lot if the contract is authorised by the city council.

Other improvements proposed as part of renovation include addition of the fourth security check point, which will have eight passenger lanes; an air line ticketing space; expansion of Customs and Border protection area; and more space for shops and restaurants to position the airport to land European flights.
