Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway bags LEED Silver


The Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway in Georgia, US has secured LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council.


The facility consists of a total of 403 rooms and employs various green measures. The lighting fixtures installed in the building run low on energy consumption. The hotel has also been fitted with low-flow plumbing and shower systems which help in reducing its water usage. Use of non-coal produced energy, as well as low-VOC paint, sealants and carpets adds to the sustainability.

The hotel has been equipped with a white roof which acts as a heat repellent. Its imbibes 10% of reclaimed materials, along with a water-saving landscape which leads to a 50% slash in water usage. The eco-friendly features help the facility reap 30% in water- and 28% in energy-savings over a traditional building.

The guests of the hotel are allowed access to thermostats to control their individual environments. Further, 20% of all its supplies have been procured from within 500 miles of the project site. Other sustainable features include recycling in centralized areas, paperless billing, green meeting choices and materials. Presence of premium parking areas for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles boosts the green initiative.
