Interior design and procurement specialist Areen has designed the interiors of several new buildings at the King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA Airport) in Jeddah.

The London-based practice, which recently completed an interior design and procurement project at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar, Senegal, won the project in 2010 when the Saudi Binladin Group commissioned it to handle interior design and procurement for the passenger terminal complex, the control tower, the new railway station and numerous support and ancillary buildings, including a 120-room airport hotel.

Work began on the scheme in February of last year and the terminal is set to open in 2014.

According to Areen, the design is inspired by the local environment and culture and will create 'a contemporary yet culturally sensitive gateway to Jeddah and the city of Mecca'.
