Airport Architecture 2018: the best airports in the world
KL International Airport

Location: Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia
Designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa with Malaysian firm Akitek Jururancang, Kuala Lumpur International Airport is one of the largest airports in Asia. It has been criticised by some as an overly eclectic design, incorporating an Islamic-style domed shell roof.

Underneath, the wooden ceilings of the transfer halls are dotted with star-like spotlights, inspired by the Malaysian rainforest. Built around a central garden space, the airport opened in 1998 and demonstrates the intricate ways that design can blend with the culture and traditions of the landscape.
