+tongtong designs Annie Mesenge’s Toronto store

Multidisciplinary design studio +tongtong has completed the interior for Annie Aime, the latest retail space from Parisienne fashion retailer Annie Mesenge in Toronto, Canada.

Designed to be a flexible, open-concept environment that can easily be transformed into a space for art openings and other events, the interior is bold and layered.

A notable element of the retail store is +tongtong’s recently launched Les Ailes Noires series of freestanding clothing racks which have been featured throughout. The display racks are designed as geometric units, and are made of welded steel. They are specifically made to weigh so that they can merely lean against the wall and can be easily moved throughout the space with no fasteners.

The entire display unit has been designed to be animated which was achieved with the creation of a graffiti treatment that seems to drip down the walls and onto the floor, and also onto the glass-fronted storefront. The treatment was created by playing off of a strip of exposed brick left in the space by the owner. A low-lying stepped brick display unit towards the centre of the shop was also developed along with a floor-to-ceiling brick and wood shelving unit at the rear.
